In Obscuration, I took a deep dive into how fabrics have been used in portraiture. I was interested by the “hidden mother” in historic photography. This is when in portraits of babies, the long exposure times required an unseen mother draped in fabric to hold the child. In my photographs, I explored the draping of the figure, and what obscuring or revealing the figure could create. Some other influences were Patty Carroll’s photographic work and Markus Åkesson’s paintings.
